I am well into rehearsals for GOYA Theatre's production of Half Life by John Mighton. I auditioned at a general casting call and was cast in the role of Stanley. Stanley is a computer featured in a scene where the scientists who constructed him hold a contest to see if one of their colleagues can determine, within five minutes, whether Stanley is a man or a machine. It is one small scene, and I do not appear on stage, I am the voice of Stanley, but as Norma Desmond says in Sunset Boulevard, "there are no small roles, only small people." The director saw fit to cast me out of the great many people who responded to the audition call. As I have just the one scene, I am helping out with this production in gathering music and sound effects. I took part in constructing the set too. Rehearsals continue and a good cast was assembled. I am confident this will be a top notch production. GOYA is one of the higher end theatre companies in Ottawa. The play goes on at the end of April at Ben Franklin Place in Nepean.
